Breana over at Gun Lovin’ Dwarf Chick posted about trying to find WoW players without getting The Look from people that don’t play. It came up in discussion in the bloggers’ chat room, and the idea of hand gestures came up. Me being me, my brain took a slightly different track…

Jon: there needs to be like a gesture or something
Nightravyn: like gang signs? ::grin::
Breana: hmmm….flapping arms are too strange
Nightravyn: have an overall WoW signal, then have one hand sign for Alliance, one for Horde.
Breana: lol
Nightravyn: I can see it now…
Breana: if we have two then they both need to be known so even members of the other faction can tell
a parade of flapping arms?
“are you suppose to be a chicken”
Nightravyn: “..sup.” “sup ::flashing hand sign::” “::flashes sign back then folllows with side::” “Filthy SCUM! ::beatdown::”
Breana: roffle
Nightravyn: “Sorry officer, but he’s HORDE!” “oh? what server? I might have ganked him…”

“Attention readers. We apologize for any delay in your usual inane chatter from this site. At this time, the blogger has been sent out for a full reformat and reboot as she was behaving in an unusual manner. Everything should be back to normal within a few days.

“As a side note: to the residents at 325 Honor Hold Place, we apologize for the condition your shrubbery is in. We are relatively certain that Ms. Nightravyn was not in a clear frame of mind when she decided to trim them all into the shapes of sand gnomes then proceed to play leap frog with them before she set them on fire for “not following the rules”. A delivery truck from Darnassus Lawn Care will be arriving at your home shortly with replacement shrubbery and a bundt cake as our apology. Thank you for not suing.”

One of the big things about being a Hunter in WoW is getting to tame an animal and have it be your companion, dishing out damage and being your own personal meat shield. Even better, you get to name the critter once it’s succumbed to your charms. This has lead to some truly stellar names in the annals of pet naming history, along with some, erm, questionable choices.

The tale of my taming Mirya the Teal Kitty (yes, Matticus, she’s teal, not blue), as well as the reasoning behind her name, is well documented. But then there’s the other pets I’ve had. There was the black kitty with the white spots very early on in my hunter career that was named Sylvie after my then real-life kitty. I tamed a white windserpent once and named it Pip, after a character’s pet from a book series by Alan Dean Foster (excellent series). Then there was a leopard-spotted kitty I tamed that I named Kibble. Why? It amused me and still does. When I got my warpstalker, I named him Kieru. One of the definitions I found for it is “Vanish”, which of course is perfect for a warpstalker.

But then there’s the other pets out there. There’s the turtles named “Soup”, the “ugly” pets named “Pookie” or “Muffin”, or the odd gorilla named “Dkong”. Some of the best fun I had in beta testing TBC was when my class leader named her new pet after her hubby and I named my new warpstalker after The Boyfriend. Both gentlemen felt less than honored, while everyone else in the guild got a giggle or three watching “GuildLeader” die over and over while we were learning the new instances. I know I saw an owl wander by the other day named “Splat”. At one point I’ve seen a bat named “Booya”. There was a pink tallstrider named “Shrimp” that I used to see a lot, but not so much anymore. And then there was the one person that named their pet a very mundane name: “James.” I got curious and asked why they named them that. Their response? “It’s my soon-to-be-ex-boss. i like watching him get slapped around then stomped on. It prevents me from yelling at work before I put in my two week notice on Monday. ^^” There ya go, pet destruction as an anger management tool!

Anyone else seen any oddball pet names or just have a name you use over and over cos it tickles you?

Once again, Leafy’s fault.

This always seems to happen when I’m talking to other Blog Azeroth people. Leafshine happened to wonder how on earth the Tuskarr from the next expansion would even kiss. Photoshop happened… sorta.

Tuskarr kissing? Not!

It’s Leafy’s fault.

Photoshop bug struck again…
Supercharged Bear!

I was chatting with Bellwether and Siha this morning, both members of the Blog Azeroth group. Guild drama came up, and the “drama llama” term was used. Somewhere in the sleepy recesses of my mind, something stirred. Then Bellwether sealed my doom by awakening the Photoshop Monster: “omg. it’s a super hero llama”.

After about 5-10 minutes discussing super hero llamas and my Photoshop Monster yelling “DO THIS!”, I sighed and gave in. So now I present to you, Super Llama.
Super Llama

I need help…

From NyteTyger (aka Aerye), a good friend that I’d “persuaded” to join WoW, comes a little tale of a hunter gaining a new friend…
Hunter
… I … am a hunter… born of a family of hunters. I am night elf, of course, of good breeding. As expected, when younger, I cared for the animals living about the house. Sadly, a bear became irritated when I tried to give it a bath, and so I hide my scars under this mask of pure white. The bear wears no mask– a hunter knows well how to care for those things which maul them…

But the time has come… I must gain my OWN pet… and travel the wide world of Azeroth to gain my fame….
taming the fierce beast

In my wandering, I have spied a gallant creature. He is fierce, but I have a secret– my family carries a special inheritance… the “Grippe KungFoo” and with that I shall prevail! And so, I began my taming, knowing the wounds this beast hath done to my body would be forgotten once my taming was done…
done!
Nearly fainting with my injuries, finally it has happened… in in our joining, my pain is no more. My mighty beast and I will begin our adventures… the first being… finding a name….

… I am thinking this mighty beast looks to be… Orang-o… but only time will see what he is to be named….
